Mark Tiley on Hollie Boughton (my chief serf)

I remember the first time I met Hollie. She was put forward for a job we'd advertised and came in for an interview. What soon became apparent was that Hollie was there to interview me and had high expectations too! Needless to say I was impressed (and of course relieved that we satisfied her criteria) and offered her the job. In the five years since Hollie added her new dimension to our business, we've experienced continued successes with much fun along the way.

Of course there are always two sides to a story. It's deeply unfortunate that Hollie is also a very accomplished cook. "Great" I hear you say, except when I say 'cook' I mean pastry cook: brownies, flapjacks, chocolate gateaux... all the things I can't resist. I've certainly benefitted from Hollie being part of my life, but my waist has not!

Hollie Boughton on Mark Tiley, MD ('King' to his minions)...

It isn't often that small design agencies (which is how we started out) somehow manage to convince leading international brands that their creative minds are the ones to work with. It can't be magic (although it would be very cool if it was), but I do think that a bit of boyish charm probably has something to do with it.

It's been about 20 years since it all began and King has matured to become a slightly greyer version of the 24-year old stripling that he was when it all began. I doubt he will ever age in spirit - which makes for some very entertaining lunches and awards dos. And thankfully, it means the rest of us are free to discard stodgy veneers of polished jargon that sound terribly reassuring but mean very little. I imagine that's a big part of the reason why our clients tend to stick with us, too.
